Veritas University Crowned Champions of Inaugural NBA REC University Tournament

Veritas University has emerged victorious at the inaugural NBA REC University Tournament, defeating the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) in the final to claim the historic championship.
The competition, organised as part of the NBA’s growing basketball development efforts in Nigeria, brought together eight universities to compete for the inaugural title.
Veritas University, Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti, UNIABUJA, UNILAG, LASUED, UI, LASU and LEAD CITY.
Veritas University was among the teams drawn into Group D alongside the University of Ibadan. A series of Determined performances marked Veritas ‘ journey to the finals. The team booked its place in the championship game after defeating its semifinal opponent, ABUAD, setting up a final clash against UNIABUJA.NBA Nigeria subsequently streamed the decisive encounter between the two Abuja universities.
In the final, Veritas held its nerve to overcome UNIABUJA and make history as the first champions of the NBA REC University Tournament. NBA Nigeria celebrated the achievement, describing Veritas as the champions of the inaugural tournament after what it called an impressive run.
The victory adds another sporting achievement to Veritas University’s growing list of successes, giving the institution bragging rights as the first university to lift the NBA REC University Tournament trophy.
For university basketball in Nigeria, the tournament represents an important platform for discovering and showcasing young talents while creating greater visibility for the sport at the tertiary level.
With Veritas University now stamped into the history books as the inaugural champions, attention will turn to the future editions of the competition and whether another university can dethrone the new champions.
