By Ibrahim Happiness.
The University of Abuja has achieved a historic milestone as its Department of Development and Strategic Communication secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC), firmly positioning the institution as a hub of innovation, research, and professional development.
This was disclosed by Mr. Auwal Sani, a lecturer in the department, during a supervisory visit to university students interning at Image Merchants Promotions Limited (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential.
Awwal who serves as the Examination Officer in the department pioneered the DVST Media platform say the move was to bridge student classroom learning and practical experience.
His words, “This accreditation is not just a badge of excellence; it is a responsibility. DVST Media was born out of the need to bridge classroom learning with industry practice, and now our students can proudly say their degree carries full national recognition,” he added.
According to him, the Head of Department (HOD), Dr. Aisha AbdulRauf-Salau, described the achievement as a testament to years of sacrifice, mentorship, and belief in the institution’s vision.
“Accreditation validates our standards, but more importantly, it challenges us to keep raising the bar for our students and for Nigeria,” she said.
On her part, Amina Shehu, the department’s Level Adviser, emphasized the human dimension of the success.
“Every student who walked into my office with doubts or difficulties reminded me why patience and accessibility matter. This accreditation proves that when students are supported, they thrive,” he noted.
She says the accreditation reflects years of investment in nurturing talent and driving impactful research.
“It validates careful planning, continuous improvement, and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” she stressed.
Students and alumni echoed the pride. A student representative noted, “We joined a young department when many doubted its future. Today, our decision has been vindicated. Every project, every campaign, every article we produced now carries the weight of full accreditation.”
Looking ahead, the HOD reaffirmed the department’s mission saying, “This is not the end—it is the beginning of greater opportunities. We will continue to innovate, to research, and to prepare graduates who will shape Nigeria’s communication and development landscape.”
