NMA rewards UNILAG’s best medical, dental graduates with N500,000
The Nigerian Medical Association, (NMA) Lagos State chapter, has rewarded two outstanding graduates of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos with a total sum of N500,000 in recognition of academic excellence.
The awards were presented during the 2024/2025 Medical and Dental Induction and Awards Ceremony held at the Old Great Hall, CMUL, Idi-Araba, Lagos, where newly qualified doctors took their oath of practice.
The Chairman of NMA Lagos, Dr. Babajide Kehinde Saheed, who represented the association at the ceremony, presented N250,000 each to the best graduating medical student, Dr. Alabi Taofeek Oluwaseun, and the best graduating dental student, Dr. Adenle Mubarak Adedeji.
Speaking at the event, Saheed said the gesture was part of the association’s commitment to promoting excellence in medical education and encouraging young doctors to strive for professional distinction.
According to him, “Recognising excellence at this stage is important because it inspires others and strengthens the culture of hard work and dedication in the medical profession.
He noted that the NMA Lagos branch would continue to support initiatives that advance medical education and improve the welfare of doctors across the state.
Also, the Publicity Secretary of NMA Lagos, Dr. Akinsulire Bisoye Olaniyi, said the award also reflects its resolve to invest in the next generation of healthcare professionals, particularly through its Young Doctors Forum.
Olaniyi said the body remains committed to protecting the welfare and professional interests of doctors while sustaining support for academic excellence.
The induction ceremony marked another milestone for the College of Medicine as it formally released a new batch of medical and dental practitioners into Nigeria’s healthcare workforce, at a time the country continues to grapple with manpower shortages in the health sector.
